Let’s face it… weddings are expensive affairs for everyone involved.

The bridesmaids have a number of “bridal” responsibilities they are expected to fulfill and oftentimes it requires money.

For example, it’s a given that bridesmaids have to be at the bachelorette party BUT nowadays bachelorette parties are becoming more and more extravagant. Spa weekend retreats, wine touring in Napa Valley, weekend stint in Las Vegas anyone? Yup, all of this and more are things that maids are planning for the bride-to-be!

Wedding Wire conducted a survey into the actual costs involved in being a bridesmaid and came up with some shocking results:

The average cost of being a bridesmaid is $1,400-$1,800 …GOODNESS!

So what do you think?

Are engagement, bridal showers, bachelorette parties AND wedding gifts a step too far?!

Should bridesmaids pay for their own dresses? Especially if it’s a color and/or style they wouldn’t chose for themselves and that they may never wear again?

Is it fair to ask your maids to put hundreds of dollars towards attending your bachelorette party, on top of the expense of attending your wedding?
